The rights and protection of agency workers were once again shown to be wholly inadequte today after BMW mini laid off an entire shift of 850 agency staff with one hour's notice. Apparently a number of the people working there had been employed for over 5 years. It is amazing that in this day and age you you can employ a temp for that long and also that you can work for that amount of time and not be eligable for anything more than a thank you.
Looks like those unemployment figures announced the other week will creep ever higher.
